WDT instructor to speak at national conference

WDT Business instructor Donna Hanks has been selected to be a presenter at the 35th annual International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence hosted by the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development. The conference is scheduled for May in Austin, Texas.

Hanks will deliver the Got Energy presentation she has presented to numerous businesses and groups in the community.

Got Energy is a fun, interactive session that discusses positive strategies participants can incorporate into their work and personal lives. Participants are encouraged to make small changes in their energy that will have dramatic, positive improvements on their life.

"Donna's selection as a speaker says a lot about her skills," WDT President Mark Wilson said. "Donna is a talented instructor and presenter, and it's great that she will be able to take her positive message to a national audience."

Since 1978, the National Institute for Staff & Organizational Development has been dedicated to the professional development of faculty, administrators, and staff and to the continued improvement of teaching and learning with the ultimate goal of student success.

More than 700 community colleges around the world are members of the organization.

Hanks is looking forward to the opportunity to share Got Energy and learn from other faculty members attending the conference.

"Conferences serve as a vehicle to reenergize while providing ways to learn new teaching strategies that will benefit the learning environment for students." Hanks said. "As a faculty member, you can't really ask for any more than that."

Forty-eight companies and organizations are registered to attend the event, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, in the Commons and main hallways of the Mickelson Building.

Employers will discuss full-time, part-time, and seasonal job opportunities. "These employers are coming because they want to hire Western Dakota Tech students," Lauinger said. "That says a lot about our students and about the education they receive here at WDT."
