Western Dakota Tech Celebrations Set for 53rd Commencement May 14-15

Amberley Snyder - Inspirational Barrel Racer, Subject of Netflix Movie, is Commencement Speaker

Western Dakota Technical (WDT) College is celebrating this year's 53rd Commencement with three ceremonies to allow for social distancing of graduates and attendees due to the pandemic. About 381 students will receive Certificates, Diplomas or Associate of Applied Science degrees - one of the largest graduating classes in WDT history.

Arbor Day Foundation Honors Western Dakota Tech with Tree Campus Higher Education Recognition

Western Dakota Tech (WDT) has been honored with Tree Campus Higher Education® recognition by the Arbor Day Foundation for its commitment to effective urban forest management. This first-time WDT achievement is the result of college planning and student project work in 2020 to earn the special Tree Campus designation. It is believed Western Dakota Tech is the only technical college in the state to receive the 2020 honor.

Hertel Receives Inaugural American Technical Education Association Award

WDT Makes an Impact at American Technical Education Association Annual Conference

Western Dakota Technical (WDT) College excellence continues to excel at a national level. During this week’s American Technical Education Association’s (ATEA) 54th National Conference, a WDT faculty member has received an award, the college’s President has advanced as an officer of the organization, and two additional employees were selected as panelists.

Mandy Hertel, WDT General Education - Social Science Program Director, received the inaugural American Technical Education Association (ATEA) Impact to Technical Education Award on April 27. The surprise award was announced live during the 54th ATEA National Conference virtual awards ceremony.

Western Dakota Tech Students Earn 11 Awards in SkillsUSA South Dakota 2021 Competition

The exceptional career skills demonstrated by Western Dakota Tech (WDT) students has resulted in 11 post-secondary 2021 SkillsUSA South Dakota Awards received. Of the six events WDT students entered, they earned gold in five events and took all places – gold, silver, and bronze – in Architectural Drawing and Technical Drafting categories.

'Planting the Pond' Project Benefiting East Middle School & Western Dakota Tech Students

An innovative project called "Planting the Pond" by Western Dakota Tech (WDT) faculty members Kelsey Murray, Ph.D., and Bryan Mitchell, is teaching sustainability and conservation to East Middle School students in Rapid City and might even put them on the track to pursuing higher education and careers in related fields.

The same project has involved WDT students in many programs and is also benefiting them as they put what they learn in the classroom into action.
