Metallica Scholars Initiative Workforce Education Program Now in All 50 States

Rapid City, S.D. - All Within My Hands (AWMH), the non-profit, philanthropic organization created by the members and management of Metallica, is incredibly proud to announce the largest expansion of its Metallica Scholars Initiative (MSI) and its largest grant to date. With the launch of year six, 18 new colleges join the roster of existing MSI community colleges, with each new college receiving $75,000 to enhance the student experience within career and technical education programs. The Metallica Scholars Initiative now has a presence in 60 colleges across all 50 United States and the territory of Guam.

Western Dakota Technical College (WDTC) has been notified it will continue as a Metallica Scholars college for Cohort 6. WDTC was selected to join the Metallica Scholars Initiative last year in Cohort 5. WDTC is the only technical college in South Dakota to receive this designation and grant funding to reduce financial barriers for students in several career programs.

Report Shows WDTC Graduates Excel in First Year Following Graduation

“There has never been a better time to attend and graduate from a technical college. The current career placement and wage outcomes for Western Dakota Technical College (WDTC) graduates are phenomenal,” said Ann Bolman, Ed.D., WDTC President, reflecting on the latest S.D. Technical College System Graduate Outcomes Report.

The South Dakota Board of Technical Education recently released the Graduate Outcomes Report for the state’s four technical colleges based on 2023 graduate placement information. (Methodology below.) Western Dakota Technical College graduates have an overall placement rate of 99% for the third consecutive year*. Of those graduates, 95% are working in their program career field – an increase from the 91% percentage reported last year.

Western Dakota Technical College Students Earn Gold Medals at National SkillsUSA Competition

Three Western Dakota Technical College (WDTC) students recently earned Gold medals at the SkillsUSA National Championship Conference in Atlanta, Ga. Austin Evans (Black Hawk, S.D.) and Lance McNeese (Spearfish, S.D.) placed first in the Cyber Security competition. Jantzen Fisher (New Underwood, S.D.) received Gold in the HVAC-R (Heating, Ventilation, A/C and Refrigeration) competition.
