Western Dakota Tech’s Corporate Education Center is offering a new Basic Machining Class – Metal Lathe. The class will take place Thursday nights, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Jan. 12- Feb. 23.
This seven-session introductory course, taught by Bill Urban, will provide technical theory and hands-on training covering the use of the metal lathe to produce machined parts.
Topics to be covered include: Orientation and Shop Safety; Overview of the Metal Lathe; Terms and Definitions; Machine Components; Operation and Maintenance; Technical Reference Resources; Precision Measurement and Inspection; Hand-Grinding of Turning Tools; Turning, Boring, Threading and Knurling; Cutting Speeds and Feeds; Four-Jaw Chuck; and Tooling and Materials Resources.
Prepayment and pre-registration is required and class size is limited. Tuition is $279 per person. Registration closes at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11. Participants must be 18 or older.
