Western Dakota Tech held a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to open the new Highmark Federal Credit Union Conference Room.
The ceremony was held at 11:00 a.m. in the named conference room on the first floor of Wanbli Hall.
The dedication is to honor Highmark Federal Credit Union for financial support of recent expansion and renovation projects at Western Dakota Tech. Highmark donated $30,000 to the college in 2011 to help with costs related to those projects.
Western Dakota Tech President Dr. Ann Bolman says the college is extremely grateful for Highmark's gift.
"We are so grateful for the support and partnership we have with Highmark Federal Credit Union," Bolman said. "It's important to show our appreciation and this is one way we can do that."
Highmark Federal Credit Union President John Carlson also spoke at the event. He says the college plays an important economic development role in the community.
Aaron Jacobs, Western Dakota Tech's Foundation Development Director, says the conference room will help students gain experience in a professional setting that they are likely to encounter after graduation.
"This room is a place for faculty, staff, and students to gather and work on projects and presentations, " Jacobs said. "But it's also a great opportunity for students to get used to an environment they will almost certainly encounter in their careers."
