Apply Now for Philip Practical Nursing Satellite Location Opening in January

Deadline is Dec. 1, 2022; Only Eight Spots Available

Western Dakota Technical College (WDTC) is striving to help fill skilled nursing positions throughout the region while aiming to make earning a Practical Nursing diploma more accessible and affordable for those who live in the Philip area.

The technical college is opening the Philip Practical Nursing satellite location in the Spring Semester starting in January 2023. Those interested in starting the Philip Practical Nursing program must apply by Dec. 1, 2022. There are eight spots available for students in Philip, so those interested are encouraged to apply ASAP. The program courses and lab will take place at Philip High School located at 330 Scottie Ave.

“The Practical Nursing courses and lab in Philip will be identical to what we now offer in Rapid City, on our main campus, and at our first satellite location in Whitewood,” said WDTC Nursing Program Director Kristen Hybertson. “We are now reaching out to those who live in the rural Philip area who are working as nurse aids, and/or have completed the nursing general education prerequisites, to earn their Practical Nursing diplomas close to home. This will save them time and money from having to travel to Rapid City and perhaps locate housing there.”

Hybertson said the Philip location will offer the same lecture courses, nursing lab, simulation, and clinical experiences for students as in Rapid City.

Financial aid opportunities are available for the Practical Nursing program.
