SNAP Employment and Training

SNAP Employment and Training - Tuition Funding Available Through S.D. Department of Social Services


Students receiving benefits through the South Dakota Department of Social Services Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) may also be eligible for tuition assistance at Western Dakota Technical College (WDTC) through the SNAP Employment and Training (SNAP E&T) program.

Student Eligibility

Eligible participants must:
  • Be an eligible SNAP recipient;
  • Be a South Dakota resident; and 
  • Be enrolled in an approved WDTC course or program.

Covered Costs

The SNAP Employment and Training program funding covers Western Dakota Technical College's tuition and fees for approved courses and programs.

Additional Assistance 

Additional assistance through the South Dakota Department of Social Services (DSS) may be available to help cover education-related costs that will promote a student’s success in their program. Examples include transportation expenses, tools, uniforms, etc.

How it Works

Follow These Steps:

  1. SELECT PROGRAM

    Select one of the approved SNAP E&T program options.

  2. APPLY TO WESTERN DAKOTA TECHNICAL COLLEGE

    Complete the WDTC application.
     
  3. APPLY FOR FEDERAL FUNDING

    Contact the Financial Aid office.

  4. VERIFY

    Once your application has been processed, an Admissions representative and the South Dakota Department of Social Services will verify eligibility. Students that are not currently eligible for SNAP will be sent an application to complete. The SNAP application can also be completed online.

  5. COMPLETE WDTC REGISTRATION


  6. BILLING

    WDTC will bill The South Dakota Department of Social Services directly.

  7. WORK WITH YOUR CASE MANAGERS

    DSS and WDTC will provide case managers to ensure that participants enrolled in SNAP E&T receive the supports and services they need to successfully complete their education program and transition into employment.
