WDTC Students Earn Many Medals at SkillsUSA S.D. Skills Conference

College Honors Students During Special Event

Western Dakota Technical College (WDTC) students recently demonstrated their exceptional career readiness during the SkillsUSA South Dakota Skills Competitions in Mitchell, S.D. At the event, WDTC students placed in eight skill competitions, earned six gold medals, and swept the three top medals in the Plumbing category.

At the conference, the students competed against fellow students from Lake Area Technical College, Mitchell Technical College, and Southeast Technical College.

WDTC  honored all students who competed and specially recognized the 16 students who earned medals on May 1. The celebration took place at the college with the students’ peers, faculty, and Leadership in attendance. 

WDTC SkillsUSA SD Skills Championship medal winners are as follows:

  • Automotive Service Technology: 2nd place - Quinn Ernst, 3rd place - Caine Svarstad.
  • Cyber Security: 1st Place Team - Austin Evans and Lance McNeese.
  • Heating, Ventilation, AC and Refrigeration (HVAC-R): 1st place- Jantzen Fisher, 3rd place Jorge Ucan.
  • Information Technology Services: 1st place - Haley Erickson, 2nd place - Casey Clarke.
  • Internetworking: 1st place - Lennon Purdue.
  • Plumbing: 1st place - Remington Bremer, 2nd place - Jameson McClain; 3rd place - Micah Warren.
  • Welding Team Fabrication: 1st place - Team W: Collin McCracken, Dylan Beaver, and Kurt Primo.
  • Individual Welding: 2nd place - Tanner Brunskill.
SkillsUSA SD competition gold medal winners qualify to compete in the national SkillsUSA Championships, June 2-28, in Atlanta, Ga.

Western Dakota Technical College (WDTC) was established in 1968 and is the only technical college serving the western South Dakota region. 

WDTC offers more than 40 programs in a variety of fields, including Business and Computers, Construction and Manufacturing, Energy and Environmental Technologies, Health Sciences, Legal and Public Services, and Transportation Technologies.
